In many cultures, a woman’s hair is the first attraction. Whether long or short, dark or blonde or anywhere in between, hair is one of the chief indicators of beauty and health. During the course of time, men have attached labels and taboos to different hair colors, for instance, we’ve all heard that “blondes have more fun”, redheads are wild and crazy, and the brunette is safe to bring home to mom. But what does hair really represent to a man?
There was a time when women reached their thirties and felt the need to cut their hair, but those days are long gone. Like a fine red wine gets better with the passing of time, women are looking younger and more beautiful as they age with grace and style. It’s getting harder to determine their specific age by just looking at them, because women are caring for their skin, eating right, working out and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
In today’s world, thanks to innovations from talented artists, even women with fine hair can have the look and feel of thick, full hair (like me) or length if you are unable to grow it out, by using extensions. Now, what used to be just a daydream can be achieved in a matter of hours.
But what value does this have in a culture where a woman’s hair is not usually on display? In the Muslim world, where it is common for women to conceal the hair we are so obsessed with showcasing, wars are waged on overlapping battlefields, one between tradition and the other between the will of the state and the rights of individuals. The subject of hair serves as a lightning rod, and should certainly never be reduced to something trivial. What is normal and celebrated for many is forbidden for others.
Hair can be described in a multitude of ways, but in some parts of the world, hair represents far more than a simple fashion statement. It has much “deeper roots”!
In all the years that I’ve owned The Alma G Salon, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting awesome people, but my greatest joy and reward has come from bonding with with the children. They bring out in me all the love that I possess. These little ones have the power to make my heart skip a beat and put a huge smile on my face. I love to watch their expressions when I simply paint their nails, put a braid in their hair or a little touch of blush on their cheek. This reaction makes me the happiest woman in the world. They are so pure and loving, and their stories are so precious and innocent. I love kids, and I adore the way their creative minds can imagine and inspire endless dreams. To all the mothers and fathers who have done a terrific job raising these children… I thank you for allowing me to kiss them, hug them, play with them and tell them loooong stories! These kids are the new generation, so it makes me extremely proud to have had the opportunity to get to know our little leaders at such a young, tender age.
With lots of love,
I first met Josh Button more than eight years ago. The ultimate cool guy, with his side hat on and his big chain hanging on his neck as he walked his beautiful dog Reya with confidence and swag. There is plenty to say about this force of nature, who is as beautiful on the inside as he is on the outside. He is a devoted, loving son, a true professional at work, the most amazing dad to his princess Reya, and a loyal friend. He is the ideal man’s man.
He loves my stuffed peppers and I love his peanut almond cookies… and so does the entire staff at The Alma G Salon! Everyone who meets Josh Button either wants him or wants to be him.
But behind a great man like Josh, there is a wonderful, powerful woman like his mom Kathy. She instilled in him the best qualities, like his kindness, his faith, and his ability to be an excellent leader like her. He gets his great looks from his mom, but he maintains his great looks and his long, beautiful hair by visiting Alma G. Josh would say that of course Alma must take credit for something… LOL.
I have the great pleasure of playing with his hair, but I have the honor of being his friend, and he has inspired me with his strength and determination to never give up on your dreams.
I love you Mr. Button, just the way you are!

As a creative team, the personal relationships that we build with our clients is our greatest reward. We genuinely care about our clients and it is our number one goal to please them by truly listening and creating a look that will match their vision. By working closely with our clients, we get to play a role and be a part of the most important days of their lives. Recent newlywed and cherished client Alison was so thrilled with her bridal hair that she was moved to send us a beautiful “thank you” card to express her appreciation.
